Burgh Hall

The Burgh Hall in Dunoon is B-Listed and has been shortlisted in the community led regeneration category. This was designed by Robert Bryden in 1874 and was re-opened to the public in 2017 after redevelopment. Redundancy and possible demolition was averted by the local community and supporters who formed the Dunoon Burgh Hall Trust and the process of seeking grants was commenced. Page\Park Architects were commissioned to oversee the extensive repairs to the fabric and reimagine the interior to accommodate modern performance and gallery spaces within a welcoming and vibrant community run arts venue, to be supported by local volunteers.

Repair of the external historic fabric was a significant part of the project, whilst internally most historic features had already been lost. The existing scissor trusses to the main hall roof were beyond repair and new structural steel trusses were inserted alongside the existing as support to the roof. Renovation of the interior has provided the community with a variety of flexible, multi-functional events spaces. Clean, minimal gallery spaces that host touring exhibitions are juxtaposed with raw, utilitarian workshops for artists.
