major investment in Lochgilphead and Mid ARGYLL

LOCHGILPHEAD FRONT GREEN PROJECT

Lochgilphead Front Green is an important public space within the heart of Lochgilphead. It is a natural focal point for both residents and visitors, a place for people to gather, relax and play. Thanks to the Tarbert and Lochgilphead Regeneration Fund, The Scottish Government’s Town Centre, Place Based Investment and Cycling, Walking and Safer Routes Funds, HiTrans, Lochgilphead Phoenix Project and the Co-op Local Community Fund, in 2022 we delivered an upgrade and revamp which included installation of a new play area, a new public square and increased provision for walking, cycling and simply sitting and watching the world go by. The project won the Streets and Spaces category of the Scotland Loves Local Awards 2022 and was the gold award winner in the Public Realm and Landscaping category at the Scottish Design Awards 2023.

In April 2023, Argyll and Bute Council completed a £700,000 project in Ardrishaig which made improvements to the John Smith Memorial Garden, created a new waterfront viewing area and a public square adjacent to the community operated North Hall. The project was funded by Argyll and Bute Council with additional funding from the Crown Estate Scotland, HiTrans and the Scottish Governments Cycling, Walking and Safer Routes Fund.

Lochgilphead Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) was a £2.3M heritage-led regeneration project that ran between April 2020 and March 2026. The project, jointly funded by Historic Environment Scotland and Argyll and Bute Council, focused on Argyll Street and supported property owners with the repair of their historic buildings.

The project delivered largescale renovation works to six priority buildings, three full shopfront reinstatements, small repair grants and other improvement works. Along side this, ran a programme of traditional skills training and community engagement.
